I spent six months researching the cacao industry in Vietnam and understanding why Vietnamese cacao is consistently undervalued despite its ideal growing conditions and the quality of its produce.
Through interviews with Mekong Delta farmers, local governors, and international chocolate makers, I found that the lack of centralized processing and quality control had massive impacts on the quality and value of the final product. Throughout the supply chain, stakeholders treated Vietnamese cacao as a low quality produce despite its high potential.
